Just a thought - If Jeff H is such a bad coach, and Earl G is equally bad, and what should be obvious by now, that the women's hockey coach has destroyed the program, where the hell is our AD. Still looking at retirement villages?

What BC basketball has done to me

We have played six games. Two of them are losses to Maine and a school I had legitimately never heard of in Tarleton St, and I think we are doing great and am very encouraged by the start. BC played its two best games immediately following the demoralizing losses. Maybe it’s due to watching the football team quit on their coach for 90% of the last two months, or maybe it’s just because nearly two decades of irrelevance have left me starving for even the tiniest glimpse of hope. Bottom line: I ride with Earl. There is no can’t in Grant. Let’s Eagle up!!

Discouraged But Still Belive

I am not happy we lost to Maine. We have no inside game at all. It puts more pressure on Zach and Maiki and they don't have the skills to take over the game. BC badly need Post and Prince to get healthy soon. Last year in the ACC tourney, Karnik and Post were terriffic and the offense was lke poetry. The offense right now[ as a poster mentioned earlier] has no idenity and on a downward spiral if we don't have Post and Prince.

If Hafley goes ….

Let’s assume Hafley is let go end of season ((full disclosure - I think he will be back). Who is realistically a good replacement?

I love the iidea of Flores. Also think O’Brien would be fantastic (not sure he would take it). The idea of Chesney is high risk, but the guy has succeeded everywhere - and being a head coach is very different than being a position coach - he seems to be very good at building programs. Who else?

DEF

First, I am not a coach nor have played football. One thing I have seen from this team is that the LBs are plying out of position consistently, along with the FS. literally, our FS or SS is our 3rd LB, and this individual is the one that needs to step up when stopping the run. I know everyone wants to pick on Steele, but Woodbrey is essentially the 3rd LB, and consistently he is either showing his hand, or out of position, or is going out of position. I really think Haf and Tem are doing to much and should be go back to the 4-3, but again, i am not the coach. Our front 4 are going to get better, but the concern is the scheme. i like woodbrey, just think what they are trying to do is tough.

As for the ND game, Morehead is a really good QB, but he put the team/ DEF in a really bad position all game. Forget about the first run, the DEF stepped up and kept ND to only 3. Morehead’s INt was huge. in any sport, Momentum is huge, and when a team thinks they can beat you and you automatically give them the ball back at the 20 and they score, then DEF is already put in a bad situation. The next series BC would have had to strike back, and then another INT. Morehead checked his WRs, but he had time for only 2 seconds before pressure was felt. Having no running game is what is killing this team, and that falls squarely on Guge, not the OFF. Yes, the OFF is responsible, but if his coach can’t get these guys to run block, then the game plan is one dimensional. Brooke is a really good back, and when our starters come back, i think you will a different team. i just don’t think you can look at this OFF line because some our not supposed to be there, while 5 guys had season ending surgeries.

we can say fire Haf, but don’t know many coaches that can do too much with what they have. Yes, Haf should have gone more to the portal, but we have what we have. i just think the team is not as bad from what everyone is saying.

either way, if we have a losing record next year, he is gone.

Bedtime thoughts:

1. While waiting for my customary Saturday night call from some underclassmen at BC calling to see if I am willing to increase my donation to BC. I am glad she didn’t call because I was going to unload on her and I would have felt badly about it tomorrow.

2. I am not sure if BC has ever mailed in a ND game. It’s possible you can say they were unprepared in Coughlins first go at the Irish and that’s acceptable. BC in a season of disrespect, today blowtorched the dwindling alumni base who still cares about the program. As a coach you can screw up everything but earn years of goodwill by taking it to ND. Today was the opposite. Just a mindblowing noshow from the program at every level.

3. Watching this game was a rollercoaster ride in blameshifting. First it was the D not being ready on a 50 yard run up the middle on the first play that everybody saw coming. Then it was the qb who looked overwhelmed. But was it the OL who got their faces pushed in all day thereby relieving the QB of fault, or was it the OC who can’t find a style that might fit this squad and everything has looked discombobulated all year. Or was it the DL who got knocked off the ball with ease from the first play to the last. Our was it the linebackers who looked like they were doing their best to get game tape out there for the DIII transfer portal, or was it the DC who has failed miserably all year, and who’s defense has regressed significantly. No it’s probably just Haf. Or Leahy..or..,,

4. What a difference a week makes on the future of our QB position. I don’t think the portal is out of the question now. I don’t think they will, but that doesn’t mean they shoukdnt.

5. One of the problems with how poorly BC is coached is it prevents me from making accurate judgements about opposing staffs. I was impressed with ND on all levels. They block and tackle flawlessly. Their offense gets receivers open. Their oline keeps a clean pocket with structure all day.

6. Game was well over but BC has a 3rd and 9 and got called for a delay of game and then came to the line of scrimmage and let the play clock go to 1 before calling a panic timeout. Then came out of the timeout and got the QB killed bevause Two OL blocked one guy and two guys ran free. Can we at least try to communicate with the players as to the play call and what should be done. Truly embarrassing sequence.

7. The coaching certainly stinks but the OL has to take a share of this. They are getting bullied all over the field week after week. When is someone going to take a stand. If all these OL come back at the same weight next year bevause the strength and conditioning team and coach want lighter more nimble lineman then this is going to happen all over again.

8. Haf is not going anywhere unless he chooses to leave and his options for future employment should be dwindling but the long standing effect of his tenure is the culture of acceptable losing that seems to be taking place. There was no resistance at any level today. The players just seemed to take it like it was expected and acceptable. There is zero accountability with this program right now and that is terrifying, There is no pressure on the players to win. No threat to lose their spot. They get nuked on national tv and the coach goes in the locker room and tells them how proud he is of all of them for showing up through a mid week illness. It is so hard to break the mental cycle of losing. Winning is a process. Extra time in the weight room, extra time watching film, extra time and focus in position meaning having the game plan committed to memory. Extra time at practice doing the boring fundamentals because they might make a difference on one important play in the game. This process takes time, and we are a few years from having to start it all over when the new coach comes in.

Thoughts on the BC-GM game

1. The Langford brothers were the keys to leading the team to a victory. In the first half, Demarr was red hot with his step back and Makai finish up strong at the end of the half.
2. When the team gets healthy, I don't see Penha getting the minutes he getting now. I would be surprised if he's playing meaningful minutes against the ACC teams.
3. I want to see Kelly get more aggressive with his offensive game. He's got a nice offensive stroke and he hit a nice bank shot from up close.
4. Zachery, on the other hand, has been pitiful with his outside shooting. His shooting percentage must be in the 200's. He looks like how he started off last year.
