Hafley first press conference “We have to get faster “

I had a weird flashback to Ed Chlebek who said the same thing in 1977 resulting in the infamous 0-11 season in 1978. What works at BC is tougher smarter athletic kids from NJ Ohio Pa and New England.with speed from some southern schools sprinkled in. We used to be a top choice throughout New England. We have now lost those tough Jersey and New England kids. We used to get a substantial number of them and now we don’t. We won with those kids We won with the kids from the Catholic schools in Ohio. We don’t get them anymore because they are supposedly too slow. Our speed strategy is not working. Addazio had the right recruiting strategy try and build a fence around New England We are the only major football 🏈 program in New England and we are not talking advantage Out recruiting southern schools for southern kids to come to New England is

"My Daddy Loves Boston College Football"

Someone (honestly might have been me, don't remember) bought this for our girls a while back:

Went over to my mom's place for dinner after the game, came back, fed the dogs, and our 110lb Pyrador walks over and promptly throws up all over the book which had been left on the living room floor.

Pretty fitting. (And yes my deranged ass is going to buy a replacement)

Newton Campus Parking

First off, amazing game today. But, has anyone been parking in Newton and taking the shuttle bus? Last year it was great! They would drop you at Bapst and the buses ran almost continuously. This year, they switched the route. They go all the way down Comm Ave to Lower Campus, past the reservoir and up Beacon Street almost up to McElroy. The buses get backed up after the game with all of the post game traffic, creating huge lines. Today the wait was over 45 minutes. As the bus driver told me, “it’s a total cluster”.

Most losses at home to top 5 teams

The commentators mentioned once or twice today BC is second only to Vanderbilt University for the most losses at home to top 5 teams without a win.
I am trying to decide the worst - has to be between ‘93 loss at home to the University of West Virginia (ranked #5) or the 2001 loss to the University of Miami (ranked #1).
While certainly the ‘93 Eagles roster trumped the ‘01 version, the Mountaineers were subsequently annihilated in their bowl game. The 2001 Hurricanes can be argued to be the best assembly of talent ever in college football, with 17 first round NFL picks on their roster.
Great trip down memory lane - appreciate the announcers rekindling those epic moments.

Why no spy on HC QB?

Sluka ran for over 100 yards yesterday, including 2 rushing TD’s when he escaped the pocket. I don’t get it. Seemed so logical to me, but obviously not to our DC or Hafley. Nor our 6th year LB. He’s the real offensive threat so focus on that. Awful.

Holy Cross ran for 264 yards yesterday against our vaunted D. If our D thought Sluka was fast, elusive and athletic wait to they see Jordan Travis this week.

Halftime thoughts from the press box

1. The penalties are just absolutely wild at this point. It's obviously mostly on Hafley, but at some point as a D1 football player and 18-22 year old adult, figure it out and take accountability
2. Castellanos designed runs need to be more of a thing 2nd half IMO.
3. Defense has done its best, but the athleticism for FSU is just ridiculous. Travis was getting his left shoulder looked at, things are clearly much different if he can't go or is limited.
4. Play calling for BC has been creative with lots of motion, but again, all momentum is just sucked out of the stadium with the damn penalties.
5. They still have a shot if they stay out of their own way. All things considered, it could be a lot worse.

There's no doubt the game day atmosphere at BC definitely doesn't scream "ACC football," but of all days, I have to believe the stadium will be alive tomorrow for Welles. If nothing else, this should motivate some college kids to get absolutely hammered and make some noise on national TV (even if they're gone by halftime). Ideally, it motivates the players too, but who knows.

Holy Cross Game

Sorry I am so late with my comments. Because of the four day delay of the broadcast, I only now finished watching the game.

I loved the Holy Cross QB, Fullback and primary wide receiver. Weirdly, all ACC quality players. Not sure how it relates to NFL, but these three are really good on offense. On defense, their two cornerbacks and middle linebacker really stood out. Generally, they are a real good team and much better than Northern Illinois.

As for BC, Castolonous is the best QB I have seen at BC for some time. The offensive line looks good as did the running game. The offense generally was much better than I expected. Biggest problem is stupid mistakes. Clean this up, and we will have success against most ACC teams.

Our defensive is problematic. The defensive ends were not able to contain against HC and their running backs. Our run contain in passing situations against their QB was terrible. Our athletes on defense are not quick or fast enough right now. With Hafley being a defense first coach, I am not sure how we can be this bad. This has to improve or we are not going to win many more games let alone beat Florida State.

Saturday Weather

Weather is not looking good for Saturday. We have slid from just windy to showers and wind. I assume because of TV this game can't be moved to Friday. Also I am sure that the people in Newton would throw a hissy fit worse than a hurricane.
