State of BC Athletics

Just watched the bball team close out Miami at home in front of a loud Conte Forum. BOB was courtside, the '94 elite eight team was in the building and even some of the players from squads in the '60's. Football won their bowl game to finish the season and then we made a homerun hire after Hafley left. Hockey is tops in the nation right now and SO fun to watch. Baseball seems promising and hopefully women's lax can win another NCAA title. I know the football and basketball teams could be better, but they've been a lot worse in recent years than they are right now. Also, Blake James has been vastly exceeding the expectations I had for him which is, in ways, the foundation of the success we're witnessing. There's still quite a ways to go but I'm getting warm fuzzy feelings about BC sports in general and want to appreciate it for what it is in the moment.

R.I.P. Lefty

Took four different teams to the NCAA tournament -- Davidson, Maryland, James Madison, and Georgia State.

Went to the Elite 8 four times.

Won 786 games and Mike Krzyzewski said that he might've been the all-time winningest coach if he had not been scapegoated after Len Bias died.

And, he was never more right when asked back in the day if the NCAA should move to three refs. He said no, because when he played against Dean Smith, he didn't want it to be eight against five instead of seven against five!

John Feinstein wrote a nice tribute to him in today's Post.

OT: Generous Cincinnatian Helps In Fight Against ALS

Some 2.5 million people have donated over $115 million through the Ice Bucket Challenge started by a BC athlete. Now a humble Cincinnati resident (retired stock broker Hugh Hoffman) whose father died of ALS when the boy was only 11 years old has left $58 million in his will to the ALS Association in a complete surprise to those at the organization. Hoffman lived in a modest home in the Indian Hill suburb of Cincinnati.

You never know who will do great things!

****Official Super Bowl Week KC v SF Thread (Gamblers Welcome)****

Thoughts on the game this week? I honestly can't figure out this side or total. Last two weeks I thought it was crazy to bet against Mahomes but I have a hard time with only +2 for KC.

Ideas so far:
1. With the exception of the no QB Eagles game, the last three Shanahan playoff exits were 28-3 as OC, up 10 vs KC, up 10 against LAR. I like the idea of the first half SF -1.5 and Chiefs 2nd half ML (+102).
2. No one really thinks Purdy is the reason SF wins so I like McCaffrey at +450, Deebo 20/1, Kittle 70/1
3. Lots of playmakers so 75+ yard TD 20/1
4. 60+ yard FG 35/1. Perfect conditions with two kickers with huge legs. Butker has multiple 60 yard FGs. I love this one.

I lean SF but don't want to bet against Mahomes so will probably build out stuff like that.
