I just going to give a little info on BC's next game against Vegas. Their strength is their front court. Their bigs are lanky and can jump. Their center got some good post move and can put up points. They rebound really well. IT's going to be a challenge for Post and Glock. Their back court is not their strong point but they are led by a freshman, who can score but is prone to turnovers. They play good team defense so its going to be a challenge for BC.

Mass Gatorade POY Jaylen Harrell hopes to get BC offer

Class of 2025 Jaylen Harrell breaks down Alabama, Providence, Georgetown, and UMass offers after huge EYBL weekend | Zagsblog

By CHARLIE PARENT

Class of 2025 guard Jaylen Harrell picked up his first four offers from Alabama, Georgetown, Providence, and UMass last weekend after averaging 23 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in five games for Expressions Elite in the first EYBL session of the year.

“I think I played great,” Harrell said in a phone interview. “Both offense and defense was great and my rebounding was good. I scored when I wanted so I hope it was a good impression to the coaches that watched.”

While still in the early stages, the 6-foot-6 St. Sebastian’s School (MA.) broke down his contact with Alabama and mentioned that each school is giving similar messages at this time.

“They [Alabama] definitely want to see me be more of a guard,” he said. “I saw them at one of my games and they were impressed by the shooting and scoring. I would probably say they want me to play a little more defense or choose to guard the point guard instead of the shooting guard. That’s the same for the other schools as well.”

Harrell will also try to visit Providence, Georgetown, and Boston College this summer, though nothing is official.

“I might try to take a visit to Providence, Georgetown, and maybe Boston College,” he said.

He has previously been in contact with Boston College, but has yet to receive an offer from the ACC program.

“I went to their camp in the summer and I’ve been on two unofficial visits,” Harrell said. “Hopefully I can get an offer soon. Throughout the EYBL they’ll be texting me and saying how good of a player I am. At the end of the day, just got to keep working.”

In terms of what he’ll try to develop over his last two high school years, Harrell sites versatility and facilitating more.

“Probably facilitate more and become more of a 1-2,” he said. “Right now I’m running more of a 2-3 and it’s no problem the coaches love it but making sure I’m guarding the 1 and guarding the 2. They always say you are what you guard and I think my defense is just as good as my offense so if I guard the 1 that means I can run the 1 on offense.”

“Jaylen Harell brings the heart of 10 men where he plays,” Expressions Elite coach Ken Jackson said. “Any program or coach would love to have him. His shooting efficiency and being able to score the ball at all 3 levels separates him from most.”

“It would be hard to find things for Jaylen to work on because he’s good at most things but we will have to find something to be great at,” Jackson continued. “Our challenge would be to challenge to do more”

Birdball Weekend Series Vs NC State

ACC play opens for the Birds today, with a double header today starting at 3pm. Tomorrow's game was moved up, and Sunday is the finale at 11am. The Wolfpack come into the series ranked 14th in the country by D1 baseball and a 9-2 record. They haven't played stellar competition, the best being VCU, who they took 2 of 3 from at home to open the season, and a series win over Hawaii was prob the next best. A sweep of Townsand and a midweek pummeling of Queens representing over half of their wins.

The Pack are in an interesting spot, once again snubbed as a tourney team last year, they return a lot of their Pitching staff, but lost some key offensive players, and was thought to be a bit of a "weakness" entering the year.. Gino Groover was a high draft pick, and Carter Trice, Trevor Candelario, Kalehee Harrison all moved on. SS Payton Green xferred to Ga Tech, and for the second straight year, they had a super star freshman leave for SEC school, this time losing SH leading hitter Cannon Peebles to Tennessee. Don't be fooled however, the offense is not bereft of talent, as they have some hitters off to a tremendous start.

So. LHH Eli Serrano had a huge freshman year and stuck around and is now their CF after playing 1B almost all of last year. Jr C Jacob Cozart is an AA type player who has already hit 5 HRs and carries an OPS of over 1.300. ECU Alec Makarewicz is a switch hitter who has really given their O a power boost, he too, has 5hrs to go with a whopping 24 rbi in 11 games. Fresh DH Drew Lanphere and So. Josh Houge are two more lefty hitters with an OPS over 1.000, and Wichita xfer Garrett Pennington is another 1K ops club member, giving balance to the lineup from the right side. If that doesn't sound treacherous enough, there are two more lefties, brothers Chase and Luke Nixon, sons of Trot, who are off to good starts too.

The lineup is punishing, and you know you've heard me talk about lefty heavy lineups and how I think that can be a tough matchup for West sometimes, who gets the start in game 1. Game 2 AJ is listed as the starter, and Game 3 is TBD. A big part of how today plays out (i.e. Tyler Mudd pitching or not) will determine who starts on Sunday. The lefty pitchers will be key this weekend. We haven't seen Charlie Coon since opening weekend, and I almost forgot about him, I do wonder if he is hurt.

On the mound, I mentioned the Pack return their entire weekend staff. Game 1 starter will be Logan Whitaker, a RHP who we've seen for a couple seasons now. He pitched into the 6th last yr, with a Travis Honeyman 3 hr being the big blow in a Birds 4-1 win. He has a great changeup but has been just "ok" results wise this year. Game 2 SP will be Sam Highfill, who has seemingly been at NC State forever 's a 5th yr and Whitaker a 6th year SR). He pitched a great game vs the Birds as a Frosh, but last year had a rough year coming back from a back injury and was a RP for most of the year He's back to his 92-94 now with his good slider. He moved his arm slot down a bit, and its helped generate 14Ks in 14 ip so far, but he's also walked 10 and hit 2 more, so a patience approach will help today. Sunday's SP is Dom Fritton, who came into the year as one of the conference's best pitchers after a stellar Fr year, but has had some early struggles with his command, too. 17Ks in 12 IP shows the stuff, but also 8 BBs 3 HBP and 6.39 era is quite the surprise. That being said, this might be some of the best stuff you'll see, esp from the left side, and his early numbers don't mean much to me, he'll be a handful. Fr Ryahn Mahon has started 3 games for them and has pitched really well. Another lefty will premium stuff, will prob be their ace RP this weekend. Another stalwart who was key to their '21 Ohama run Matt Willasden must be hurt, bc he has yet to pitch this year.

ACC is a brutal slate this year, anytime you can avoid a road sweep is key IMO. Give me one this weekend on the road, and I'll be content!

Birdball vs Pitt Weekend Series

The Birds head to Pittsburgh to take on the 9-5 Panthers. Pitt started the year red hot at 8-1, but like the Birds, was swept in a tight 3 game series in North Carolina last weekend vs the Tarheels.
They bounced back to beat a 3-13 Akron team on Tuesday (one of those 3 wins was against Duke, who's midweeks have been peculiar to say the least) but proceeded to lose 7-6 to the previously 0-15 Penguins of Youngstown St on Weds. The midweeks in general are bonkers this year, but was still a surprising result.

The last few years Pitt was buoyed by 6th year SRs and Gr xfers on offense, and this year is no different. Farleigh Dickerson Xfer Luke Cantwell has been their latest portal find. A lefty swinger has 18 BBs to just 9 Ks this, which highlights the advanced approach he takes to the plate. He has 4 HRs. So. SS Luke Kendro is a RHH who came over from powerhouse Tennessee and has really hit well with a .356/.473/.578 slash line and 3 HRs. Turner Grau, a transfer from the aforementioned Penguin school is hitting .378 with more BBs than Ks and is another lefty hitter to watch, Undersized RHH C Jayden Melendez is the younger brother of Royals OF MJ, and he's shown more power this year w 3 HRs already. RHH RF CJ Funk has seemingly been at Pitt forever, and always has a nack for a big hit. Fr 3B Ryan Zuckerman has 5 hrs already, but that represents all but 2 of hit total hits for the season, but still is a hulking slugger with the ability to punish mistakes and Josh Speigel chose to not play for Gambino at Penn St and is another 6th yr GR player.

On the mound, their SP rotation is lead by lead a more xfers. URI Xfer Ryan Andrade was one of the more sought-after arms in the Portal. He's a big righty ho's been up to 97 in stints over the summer. He's struggled to throw constant strikes, but held UNC in check in his start last Friday Sat SP is Jack Sokol, a one-time Auburn righty, who has been w Pitt for 3 years now. His stuff has number matched his numbers IMO, and this year has pitched like an experienced upper classman should. Reminds me a lot of Whitaker from NC State in terms of stuff. Lefty Ryan Reed is a So. who will draw the Sunday assignment, he's got a 9.00, but a whopping 19 Ks in in 15IPs, and will remind you a lot of Tyler Mudd, al biet with worse control. Thier pen has some depth and experience, RHP Matthew Fernandez is a stopper type with good 90s stuff and hard slider and Gardner Webb Xfer Phil Fox gives them more depth. Estaban Fioverd being a more power lefty stands out from the lefty side.

This will be a challenge, but after a sweep last weekend, a series win in needed.

No word on the Birds matchups at time of me writing this, but I'd expect West today, AJ tomorrow, with Mudd the bulk guy used to close things out accordingly. Wouldn't be surprised to see Chicoine get the start Sunday (and be limited to prob 30 pitches). Farinelli is an option too, as is Shroeder, but think they'll use Nunan in a relief role, so I'd be surprised if he started.

Today at 3 on ACCNx is the start!
