Why No Booster Club This Year?

Does anyone know why there is no booster club this year? Over the years it has been known as the Hoops Club, Roundball Club and a few other names don't come to mind right now. It never was much of anything but there were a few occasions where a coach would give a talk in the Shea Room before a game. Not that I miss the popcorn but it is a reflection of how much (or how little) BC thinks of the basketball program.

Portal, portal, portal

This is not a good team with lots of deficiencies - offense, defense, special teams. Hafley's decision not to tap the portal was a colossal failure.

Even vaunted Alabama tapped the portal for a starting LT from Vanderbilt, a starting RB from Georgia Tech, and a starting WR from Georgia. Hafley is going to be back so he better wise up quickly and bring some ACC caliber talent in because the ship is sinking fast.

Landan Resendes

BROOKLINE, Mass. — It was an epic battle of top 10 teams in prep school hockey to open the season on Wednesday afternoon at Thorndike Rink on the campus of Dexter Southfield.

The hosts skated to a 2-2 tie with the preseason favorite of many, the visitors from Cushing Academy.

Boston College commit Landan Resendes (Marlboro, Mass.) scored both goals for the Penguins. Harvard commit Sean Keohane (Milton, Mass.) and Nate Porter (Hingham, Mass.) found the back of the net for Dexter Southfield.

The game was played in front of a large crowd that included approximately three dozen NHL scouts and college coaches. Everyone in attendance was treated to an intense, closely contested prep game with about 10 future Division 1 players on the ice.

2024 NHL Draft Watch

Landan Resendes
Cushing, 12/10/05, RW, right shot, 5-9/165
NCAA: Boston College

Resendes was the best player on the ice and it wasn’t even close. If he were bigger, there’d be a lot of buzz on the future BC forward. He played center in the season opener. He’s typically played right wing in the past. Resendes played in all situations. He scored his first goal by finishing off a great feed from Gardula. He caught the pass and snapped off the release quickly and accurately. His second goal came with the Penguins’ net empty for an extra attacker in the final minute of regulation. He swooped in and slammed a loose rebound into the back of the net. He had a couple of other great chances, including one shot that he buzzed right over the net with a wide-open look. Those plays all showed off his stick. His skating was most evident on a rush in overtime where he pulled into second gear to blow by the opposing right defenseman. Resendes has that swagger and ability that gets you on the edge of your seat when he’s got the puck on his stick.

Glock-party

I'm so disappointed with the second half mess yesterday that I thought I would cheer myself up by posting something positive about Glock, who is easily the biggest positive surprise this year. It got me thinking, why did they even redshirt Glock last year? There is no way he went from a player who wasn't ready to contribute last year to what we are seeing this year. And if so, kudos to whomever on the staff helped him make that transformation. Was he hurt? It's surprising how little we heard about Glock last year.

I realize yesterday will likely be one of his best games of the year. And he'll have some stinkers and we'll say he sucks. But the kid generally has the goods to play relatively high level D1 ball. I thought in Glock we would see a super raw player with some potential. He's much more skilled than I thought. He has good instincts and is tenacious. He has some touch offensively and can finish.

I don't want to oversell him. But he has been a net positive so far in a relatively disappointing start.

Biggest offseason questions for football?

So, BC announced Coach Hafley will do a season wrap up Zoom on Tuesday. I'm curious what the biggest questions are that fans have. I'd like to get a good amount of variety in the comments over the next few days and pick a few out that I could ask him. Obviously keep it civil/reasonable...I'm not going to ask him "why did you guys suck?" or "why haven't you fired your whole staff yet?" but I do want to try and get a fans perspective of what the most glaring questions are.
