Posting a Post Post Post Thread - Who Dat Doin’ It Better??

Haven’t watched more than a smattering of college hoop this year outside of BC. Is there a better traditional 5, no big wings or 4/5 hybrids, in men’s CBB??? Not longevity or projections here. Level of play since our boy QP got acclimated to full minutes/load. As for BC history I’m feeling like he’s now equal to what we saw from prime Bill Curley? Am I nutz (just about this topic, please refrain from wider insults)?

Waiting on the new OC but what about the defense?

Let’s stir up the winter football talk a bit. When Jeff Hafley came to BC I would say his two greatest strengths we heard about were recruiting and coaching defense. We have yet to see proven results at BC in either area.

Hafley’s three years at BC have seen his defense give up an average of 29 points per game in ACC play. Believe it or not that scoring defense is worse than the last 3 years under Steve Addazio.

At least 5 significant players and maybe more from the 2022 defense won’t be back and need to be replaced (Valdez, DeBerry, Maitre, Woodbey and Burton). As a result, the vast majority of the 2023 defense will be Hafley recruits so we will see if year 4 proves his value as a recruiter and defensive coach. It is all on him now as a 4th year head coach.

We can’t reasonably expect the BC offense to score 30 points per game on average in the ACC to overcome the 29 points the defense is giving up the past 3 years. So it is only logical that Hafley’s and Tem Lukabu’s defense better be much improved.

I sure hope to hear good things from spring football. If everyone listed on the expected DLine rotation is back they should be improved and added George Rooks as a transfer. There are concerns about the LB group and really have to see improved play. Converting DB’s to LB’s under Hafley is definitely under the spotlight. Just seems in general they have been physically overmatched at times. I really thought we would see an impact LB transfer in. Hafley’s DB recruits from the past few years really have to step up as well to replace the 4 that are gone. The veteran transfers will be the key if we expect to see a successful season.

UVA Game Thread 1/28 12pm

UVA 14.5 favorites. Nerdpom has it UVA by 17.
So what is bshay21 doing? I bet BC moneyline (+860). Officially the revenge of JC calling a great baseline out of bounds play and instead of Pop handing off to JRob for a wide open jumper, he plays hero ball or hero clank. Lose by one.
Prepping for that game by watching the LVille game replay on ACCN.

BC offers '25 Baltimore WR Vernon Allen III

One of the players BC offered recently is Vernon Allen, a 6'3, 185-pound Class of 2025 receiver from Baltimore (Md.) City College. He had more than 1,000 all-purpose yards and 16 touchdowns as one of the city's top playmakers last year.

Caught up with him briefly and he said the offer followed a visit to the school by Aazaar Abdul-Rahim. No surprise with coaches on the road in their respective regions right now.

He told me that Abdul-Rahim has invited him to visit and he's open to it but right now the only planned visits for the spring are Maryland and Central Florida. As a '25, it's still very early so even if he doesn't make it to BC this spring he shouldn't be written off.

BC's only the second school to offer, and the first P5 school. Charlotte was first.

Abdul-Rahim likes his size as a big pass-catcher who can make contested catches. He prides himself on getting vertical and climbing the ladder to go up and high point the ball.

Former GT commit will visit Boston College

Caught up with 5'9, 170-pound athlete TJ Engleman of Cincinnati (Ohio) Hughes and he indicated that he's planning to visit Boston College this spring. February is a dead period but in March when spring practices get cranked up everywhere it's going to be a busy time for visits. The three-star prospect is ranked the No. 20 player in Ohio from the 2024 class, and that's significant because it's a LOADED crop of talent up there for that cycle.

Engleman was previously committed to Georgia Tech but reopened his recruitment in late September. He had been committed to Tech for almost half a year.

He visited Eastern Michigan over the weekend and made that trip to be with some teammates. Last weekend he was at Cincinnati. Along with Boston College he's sure he will visit Louisville and Purdue.

While Engleman is sure of visiting BC, Purdue, and Louisville, he said it's "possible" he could visit Michigan State, Northwestern, and USF.

MIAA Football Playoffs

It is that time of year boys: We are the #1 seed in D4 so I won't be commenting on that bracket but here are my thoughts on D-1 through D3. ( i have not seen anyone in the lower divisions really so I can't add much)

D1- Central Springfield should roll against everyone. They are possibly the best MA team I have seen in my life. Final Four: Springfield vs Franklin. and. Central Catholic vs Andover.

D2- The best bracket top to bottom. The top 10 teams could compete with anyone in Division 1 outside of Springfield. Final Four: CM vs Milford, King Phillip vs Reading. CM the champs. They should be D1. They recruit the best talent in the state but duck moving up a division to play the big boys like Springfield. I bet they will play them next year when Watson has graduated. Odd coincidence. Robbing public schools of state titles by staying D2.

D3- The most wide open Bracket: Final Four: Milton vs Hanover, Billerica vs Plymouth South. Champs: Milton

Football job opening on LinkedIn

Not sure if anyone else saw this, but there is a 'Football Analyst' job posting - particularly for defensive and special teams help - on LinkedIn.

It was posted on Thursday. For everyone that's ever wanted to live the "I can do better than him" dream, here's your shot apparently.

All 4 NFL teams remaining have offensive minded HC’s

….And 7 of the 8 NFL teams remaining last weekend had offensive minded head coaches. Only Buffalo and Sean McDermott was a defensive minded HC. And Buffalo got embarrassed at home.

The rules clearly favor the offense and if you are a defensive minded coach like Hafley or Sean McDermott you need a Brian Daboll type OC. Hoping Hafley makes a really solid OC hire. Super important to the team’s success. Anxiously awaiting his OC decision.
