Pitt Athletic Director Fired

Pitt Athletic Director Heather Lyke was sent packing on Monday morning Sept 9 by new Pitt Chancellor Joan Gabel. Lyke's contract was up in December. She was recently a finalist for the Northwestern A.D. position, which went to Villanova's A.D. Lyke's dismissal doesn't appear to be team performance or scandal based. More likely, it was the new Chancellor's discontent over Lyke's deficiencies in fund-raising.

This weeks polls

Sure the polls are meaningless competitively but from a branding and publicity standpoint it’s huge. Having a ranking early and having us show up on every chryon and being featured on the pregame shows is important. This is especially important this week when we should be a featured in ranked vs. ranked game.

You figure that Iowa, Kansas, GT, NC St all drop out and we would be moving in.

The Official: Desquesne vs Boston College Eagles game thread

Confidence in what you are doing is a powerful drug. OB has preach do the things we ask and you may see the light. Last week was a huge confidence booster for the program in so many ways. It showed the players they can trust the staff to provide the differences in big games. This isn’t a big game but bigger opportunity for depth to grow. Show the future what they can do. I’m looking at the QB position. Even though I’m unable to watch. Building blocks to r next week.

Go Eagles.

Halftime thoughts from the press box

I'm not sure how many victory laps I get in a season, but this is exactly what I thought would happen. What's crazy is how easy they're making it look aside from that opening drive...

-TC looking like a Heisman candidate. The most impressive throw in the half was the last TD to Ward where he knew someone was coming and stood in there to get it off.

-Great to see Bradley and Harris making big plays after being quiet last week. Harris has been a standout performer since exploding on the scene in mini camp and hopefully we see more of that.

-Got worried when I didn't see Logan Taylor in initially after being told he'd play, but he was in for the 1st time on that last Ward TD. You know you're in a good spot when a guy who was so valuable to the line last year can be eased back in at their own pace.

-Awesome job by the student section today, showing out and showing up early. I walked through the Mods pregame and it was an absolute f'n bender. At 36 I've never been more jealous of 18-22 year olds pounding beers at noon steps away from the stadium.

-One series (maybe two) for the starters and get them out. If you're the offensive staff, this is a day you should want to see what you have in Robinson (just in case) moving forward.

-I might start looking at flights to the ACCCG and Natty if they beat Missouri next week.

Annual MIAA preview post

It is that time. Opening night of the season. We have a non-league matchup with Abington. Here is my quick preview of divisions 1-5

D1: Some very good teams up top. Xaverian, St. Johns, Springfield Central and Needham stand out. St. Pierre probably has his best QB he has ever had and he is a frosh. I assume he is starting but haven't heard. X has sophomore Will Wood who will take over from Henry H at QB. X also has a great defensive line with Amadee (BC commit) and another Funke. Most of the media are predicting Springfield to win it all. They do have that sophomore RB that runs 4.4 and has a Mississippi St. offers already. It wouldn't surprise me if Springfield beats them in week 3. But for the playoffs I'll go with X. It is tough to go against good power teams like X with dominant lines in November/December.

D2: CM, Marshfield, and KP. I think it will be CM and KP in the end with CM winning. Marshfield knocked out CM last year in a big upset and KP won the whole thing. Its tough for publics to crank out the studs every year when you know CM has a bunch in the cupboard. CM has a few BC commits and added in BC Strength Coach's kid Fitzgerald who is a stud.

D3: This division has like 8 teams that could win it. Top contenders are Billerica, North Attleboro, Mansfield, Milton (defending champs), Milford, Walpole, Dartmouth. I'll take Walpole. They have the best QB in Noah Mackenzie who will be a D1 kid. Tall and has a rocket arm. They lost in the super bowl to Milton last year.

D4: That our division so no pick. D4 is a lot stronger than last year so it's going to be tough.

D5: Foxborough is going back to back.
