I was away in Portugal visiting my daughter and family when Lonergan was signed. As a result, I was not able to watch film and assess his abilities until my return.
The kid was the top QB prospect from Georgia while at Brookwood. He has a sturdy build, is a good runner and has a strong and accurate arm. More than that, he is an excellent athlete who has pro level talent in baseball as well as football.
When he has gotten a chance to play at Alabama during their Spring game and in mop up duty during Alabama blow outs, he has excelled.

Based on the above, it is likely that O’Brien’s strategy, whether admitted to or not, is figuring out the best way to use Lonergan for the next three years. When you have a kid who could win you the ACC and dare I say a National Championship, developing a QB room is only important to the extent that it supports that objective.
