Took a look and was surprised that we lost 18 kids to the portal, seemed like a lot. However, diving in a bit, that's likely because George Rooks (possibly Ryan Turner, but we are pretty stacked at DB) was really the only one of any consequence or likely to be on the 2-deep next year. And Rooks had a PFF grade of about 50 (60 being average), so he is pretty easily replaceable.
We have 15 incoming transfers, several of whom, in my opinion, project to be difference makers and/or on the 2-deep. Let's take a look, here are my thoughts.
Likely Starters
QB Dylan Lonergan (certainly competition with James here)
WR VJ Wilkins
TE Ty Lockwood
Likely 2-Deep and/or Significant Playing Time
LB Jason Hewlett (potential starter)
EDGE Favor Bate
OL Tommy Matheson (potential starter)
Likely Depth or ST
LB E'lla Boykin
DT Chris Marable
DT Makai Byerson
EDGE Onye Nwosisi
DT Chuck Nnaeto
OL Amir Johnson
LB Vaughn Pemberton
TE Zeke Moore
DL Michael Bumpus
On paper, a very good haul for BOB and staff. Obviously the kids need to show up and play, but this looks like a huge net postive result in the portal.
