Sat 4 rows behind the bench and it’s a great place to watch the a game. Before that, some housecleaning thoughts:
1. Beautiful day, perfect, the campus looked fantastic. What a great place to spend four years. That was the good part.
2. BC needs to get their head out of their AS$ with regard to gameday operations. It is staffed like 15 people are coming over for a cookout. The Covid vaccination check was hysterically bad. They had 10-12 check in spots with one person per station. There were 30,000 people that needed to be checked in. I am not interested in doing the math, because it will make my head fall off. No offense but our guy was about 80 years old, and had a hard time reading the cards, and he went through every one. Frustrating experience. The hard part is that as we know 90% of the BC fans try to enter right around kickoff, so the overwhelming majority of people are all trying to get in within a 5 minute window. BC was overwhelmed here.
2. The only thing worse was the way BC ran concessions. There was one food concession open on each side of the, so I believe two on the lower level. Again there were 30,000 here,BC staffed for a neighborhood get together. Additionally they have 5-6 people working the concessions which is fine, but they are all college students, and their interest in speedy operations is let’s say minimal. BC saving a buck here. I went down to get a few hot dogs and waters and the line was a minimum of 250 deep, and not moving. Just preposterous. If I stayed in that line, I miss the 2nd and 3rd quarter minimum. Brutal brutal execution. Immediately went back to my seats to dirty looks from the kids.
By mid 3rd quarter they were pissy so we went down to check again, and the line was shorter, as I assume most people abandoned the cause. Walked by and they were out of water. 80 degrees out. Stay sharp BC!!
moving on: student section was awesome today. Packed, loud, they have a DJ, the students showed up and they brought the energy. Great job.
Gill in a walking boot. Valdez in an arm cast. Bhoumeri just in street clothes. Coaching staff dressed in all black. Two biggest dudes are Krajolic, who is just massively tall, and not a ton of fat on him, and Nigel Tate who is a fire hydrant.
Offense came out a little stiff. Jurk stares at Zay for the first 3 seconds of every pass route. This needs to stop. Zay is awesome and needs touches but throwing into triple coverage against Colgate is one thing, doing against ACC defensive backfields will be another.
I would give Jurk some slants and screens next week. He hung in the pocket all day because he wasn’t under duress, but he needs to get the ball out quicker in some spots. He has other capable receivers, who are going to be able to beat single coverage.
Bad drop by Luchetti on an early third down.
Way too much running by Jurk today especially when up big. Cost/benefit analysis was not looking good.
Defensive plays a ton of guys in the D backfield. Lot of depth there.
BC has really improved its speed on special teams.
Happy for Kobay. He looked quick and shifty. Not great that he can’t get in until up 40 plus late.
1-0, great start. We are on to Amherst.
