Here's a little background on BC's recruitment of Cross. He's not exactly a guy that came from out of nowhere. I haven't confirm this detail with a source but it's possible he's one of the 'silent' names mentioned as a DB target the other day in the Rundown. I have a hard time believing he wasn't given that he was a take and the positions they were open to recruiting.
