*****2025 US Open/US Open Pool at Oakmont*****

Talked about it after the Masters. I was in the car a bunch today so listened to the No Laying Up Pod interviewing a guy from the USGA about setup, redesign, etc. Pretty cool. Mostly because it looks like it will be pretty dry the next week. And that means carnage. I love US Open carnage.

This is the link to the pool I created. I have been in a bunch of these using this hosting site. Format is pretty simple. Pick six golfers using a salary cap format. Top four scores will count which means you almost certainly need four guys to make the cut to win. If three of the six make the cut, your fourth score will be the worst round shot on Saturday and then, again, Sunday. With this course and with the amount of amateurs who are playing, it might honestly be something in the high 80s/90 that counts for you. That means you will not be winning. So, try to get four and have a chance.

Fee: $25
Venmo: @bshay21. Please do not say "Dear IRS, this is a pool for gambling" in the note. Just whatever username you use for the pool. I'll figure it out.

Payout: If we have less than ten (which would be criminal), the winner will get it all. If it is 10+, winner will get 80%, 2nd place will get 20%. The tiebreaker question is winning score. If that is tied, we will go whatever single golfer in your picks shot the best round in any of the four rounds. Tie after that, we will split.

Fees: The site charges $20 for the first ten entries. I will happily pay that because I love (most) of you. That also pays for the British Open. There is a small fee per entry above that which I will subtract out of the payout. Feel free to invite friends, family, criminal associates.

I am defending a member/guest title starting next Friday/Saturday but will certainly checking in depending on bourbon level. And god bless whatever human being put the final round on Father's Day. I have an early April bday so I usually get birthday weekend during the Masters. My wife (does not) loves this. Tier 1A sporting events.

Let's get it to 25 entries!!

OT: 2025 MLB Season

First of all, 2025 sounds like a year in Buck Rogers but here we are. Second, pretty good pod I listened to in the car. C's, Sox, Pats game coming up. Middle part was with Lou Merloni. Interesting take on the free agent class and trade ideas. Good way to kick this new thread off short of a Soto deal.

2025-2026 NFL Thread

Given the sudden destruction of the Celtics Franchise lets hop into the NFL season:

Pats over 8.5 wins (+100) : Schedule includes Jets 2x, Dolphins 2x, Horrific NFC South of Tampa/Carolina/Atlanta/Saints, Last place teams: Raiders/Browns/Titans and the Giants and the Qb-less Steelers. The "Good" teams they have are Ravens/Bengals/Bills 2x

Gotta figure the Pats improve a lot with year 2 Maye, an influx of free agents/draft picks and competent people as coaches.

New Balance and Football

Beginning with the upcoming 2025 season, all aspects of BC Football’s apparel and footwear will be produced by New Balance

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Athletics and New Balance have further expanded their relationship to include the Eagles' football program as part of their comprehensive apparel deal. Beginning with the upcoming 2025 season, all aspects of BC Football's apparel and footwear will be produced by New Balance.

The extension into the football space strengthens the historic deal between Boston College and New Balance, which started four years ago. In April 2021, BC Athletics and New Balance agreed to the largest financial footwear and apparel agreement in school history. Moving forward with the addition of football, New Balance will provide footwear, apparel, and accessories for all 31 of BC's varsity sports.

"Boston College is thrilled to grow in its relationship with New Balance. Since 2021, BC has been proud to align with New Balance - a Boston-based company that is a premium, world-class athletic brand," said William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Blake James. "Serving as their flagship school in the collegiate athletics space, New Balance has demonstrated their commitment to Boston College by providing significant resources and the highest quality product lines to all of our teams and student-athletes. Our local connection to New Balance's global brand serves to strengthen the foundation of this relationship."

The pinnacle of this announcement: Boston College will serve as the first major NCAA football sponsorship for New Balance, developing best-in-class products for athletes competing at the highest level.

"Our players and staff are thrilled to represent two iconic brands - Boston College and New Balance," said Gregory P. Barber '69 and Family Head Coach Bill O'Brien. "Being the only power conference college football program to align with a cutting-edge organization like New Balance is a great opportunity that sets us apart."

Throughout the relationship, New Balance has centered its innovation and investment in Boston College Athletics on a commitment to excellence and purpose. From groundbreaking advances at the New Balance Sports Research Lab to an intelligent approach to better-fitting, high-performance gear, the two iconic Boston brands work seamlessly together to uplift their shared community. As the relationship expands into football, it sets a new standard for football excellence - rooted in legacy, driven by craft and built for the highest level of competition.

"As a Boston College alum, I am proud to see two iconic Boston institutions coming together to make the game better," said New Balance Vice President of Sport, Ray Hilvert. "The addition of the Eagles Football program to our existing sponsorship is a testament to the strong collaboration and spirit of excellence that defines the Eagles, New Balance and the city of Boston. Together, we are building a unique community that will inspire future generations of players, fans and leaders."

Tickets

I called up the B.C. ticket office to buy football tickets for a single game. The person I talked to said that season tickets had increased by 6,000 and go to SeekGeek for good single game tickets. I find it hard to believe that season tickets increased by that much but there were not a lot of good tickets available for the games.
