TE Garrett talks combine, Zoom with BC

Coaches can't reach out directly to Class of 2022 prospects until the start of September but there are ways contact can happen. Players can initiate the contact.
That led to BC High jumbo athlete John Garrett, a top local rising junior, finding himself on a Zoom call with the Boston College staff recently.
"We had the Zoom to just kind of check in," the 6-foot-6, 255-pound Garrett told Eagle Action this week. "It was with Coach Applebaum, Coach Hafley, and then a couple of my coaches from BC High and it was mostly talking about how I went down to this combine, the Elite Underclassman Camp in Delaware, and just kind of talking about that.
"They talked about how they've recruited me as a tackle and I went down there as a tight end."
BC continues to recruit Garrett as a tackle but he has been open in the past about his present desire to continue playing tight end.
How big of a sticking point is the position preference?
"I think it depends on the school," Garrett said. "Tackle definitely holds a lot more opportunity and I'm kind of riding tight end out right now just to see how I develop but as of right now I'm just going to approach it as an athlete and try to see what happens."
Garrett thought his performance at the camp in Delaware was a mixed bag.
"I think I did pretty well in the routes and I ran a great three cone," he said. "Not as good a shuttle or forty. The forty was the second thing I did and if I had another chance to run it I probably could have done better."
The '22 prospect said he also has an offer from UMass but he hasn't spoken with that staff since the offer was extended.
