The news that our beloved photographer Ken Babbitt passed away suddenly is a devastating blow personally and I'd like to take this moment to send my thoughts and prayers to his family especially his two children that he spoke about with such pride.
I had the pleasure of calling Ken my friend and spending countless hours with him on Saturdays at Alumni Stadium. For a noon game, I'd often meet Ken as early as 9AM just so we could chat and catch up in the media room before I joined him on the sidelines to point out recruits to shoot and enjoy pre-game warmups. Ken, despite his gruff exterior, was one of the kindest, warmest human beings I have encountered. He spoke to everyone, was nice to all, was a tremendous photographer and more importantly a good person. We often spoke on the phone as well over the years and he loved talking BC football although he enjoyed shooting many different sports from minor and major league baseball to minor league hockey to college football, basketball, hockey and other sports. Ken was best known for his baseball work and was published in Sports Illustrated and countless other magazines as well as shooting for baseball card companies.
The sadness of his passing covers me like a blanket and I know BC football games won't be the same without him for me. There are few people in this world I have worked with that have been able to get through my own gruff exterior and touch my heart and Ken was one of those few. The BC community lost a great man way too early this week in Ron Brace and now with the passing of Ken, also way too early, I am at a loss for more words. RIP Ken, I will miss you very much.
