By the Numbers: Comparing BC and Virginia Tech

Boston College and Virginia Tech were both haunted by turnovers last week. The Eagles had a low-rolling snap that gifted Rutgers with a touchdown to start the second half. Virginia Tech, on the other hand, had a botched field goal snap that resulted in a 10-point swing.
Perhaps the most head-turning discrepancy between the teams' Week 1 performances, though, is how they fared on the ground. BC couldn't get anything going and, in the fourth quarter, failed to stop a 96-yard, game-winning Rutgers drive, which consisted of 11 run plays. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech held Old Dominion to just 84 rushing yards, and the Hokies, themselves, piled up 136 yards on the ground.
With rain in the forecast for Saturday night in Blacksburg, the primetime matchup could very well be decided in the trenches.
