By the Numbers: Comparing BC and Virginia Tech

Points have come at a premium for Boston College in ACC play. In fact, the Eagles only have 40 of them. Luckily for head coach Jeff Hafley and Co., Virginia Tech hasn’t had rich success offensively this season.
That said, the Hokies are still averaging twice as many points against ACC opponents as BC. The teams’ Friday night matchup could come down to which side can produce more explosive plays. Both rank 86th or worse in the FBS as far as plays of 20-plus yards are concerned.
Virginia Tech’s run defense, however, is a weak point. That lends well to a BC team that has shifted to a run-oriented approach in the absence of starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec. The Eagles have had to deviate from that in recent weeks, though, because of early deficits.
