St. Peter's Prep offensive tackle Ben Petrula had a great experience at BC this summer, earning a camp offer and getting to know the school.

Petrula's summer camp at BC was his first time visiting the Heights. But because he attends St. Peter's Prep, a talent bastion and an important feeder school for the Eagles, he has heard plenty about Boston College over the years.

Before this summer Petrula did not have an offer from BC. But his camp performance changed that. According to Petrula if you had watched the first part of the camp you might have been forgiven for thinking the offer wouldn't be coming.

"I think I did well (at the camp) but in the first half of it I did mediocre," the 6-foot-5, 321-pound tackle toldEagleAction.com. "But in the second half of the camp I think I did really well. While we were playing a game to finish off the day I was talking to Coach (Justin) Frye about the college and the school and what all is there. Just talking about the school in general.

"Afterwards they offered me," Petrula said. "They called (his coach) and told me they wanted to offer me."

Previously Petrula had attended Rutgers' spring game but he had a very low key summer besides the BC camp.

Justin Frye would be Petrula's position coach at BC, if he picks the Eagles, and that would be just fine with the three-star lineman.

"I think he's the type of coach I'd really enjoy working with," Petrula said. "I like a guy that can teach with his own body. He still has the body and he's in good enough shape to demonstrate the drills and show you how it's supposed to be done. Because he was a former player, that helps. He really knows how to teach well."

Even besides Frye there was a lot to like on that trip and camp experience, Petrula added.

"It was beautiful there," Petrula continued. "I loved the campus. Boston's a very nice place. We got to ride around Boston for a while after the camp was over and it's definitely a place I would be willing to live."

Petrula said he might attend games at schools like Maryland, Penn State and even Rutgers again this fall.

"I'll probably go back to Boston but most likely after the season," he said. "Games are really tough because we don't have too much time for that."

Petrula has offers from BC, Kentucky, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple and UCF.
