Obviously BC people love Haynes' bloodlines and it's always a positive when you can get a former great player and his family closer to your program.
Haynes' commitment - as an aside - means that Boston College has at least four quarterback commitments, at least in one sense. Haynes and Drew McQuarrie are both quarterbacks in addition to Austin Burton and EJ Perry, although the former two aren't going to play behind center in college. Just something interesting.
The other day I mentioned that Haynes would be a defensive back for Boston College. Today, when I asked for clarification on whether he'd be more a corner or a safety, I was told that he doesn't seem to be more one than the other. So it will be based on what he shows well at upon arrival, what the program's need is, how he grows, etc.
"He's just like a lot of the rest of our DB's," a person told me recently. "He's a DB who can play corner or safety. He's 6'1, 190 pounds, and he ran a 4.5 when he ran. He's definitely versatile enough to play either/or. He can play multiple positions."
He could well be a safety, if you ask me, but he'll have a chance to play either spot.
The source further emphasized that even in Don Brown's absence having players who are versatile is still going to be a major focus - and this commitment reinforces that.
