Quarterback recruiting in hindsight

Talk about it in The Eagles Nest
BC's quarterback situation going into the 2015 season is still unsettled. What if things had gone a little differently in recruiting?
Rettig never seemed to be serious about following his brother to BC.
From the Class of 2013 the Eagles took a commitment from Mackay Lowrie. He's since left the school. They also accepted a commitment from dual-threat quarterback James Walsh, who is also no longer with the program.
In the next class BC accepted a commitment from Darius Wade and he could very well win the starting job. If he does, the offensive will likely be tweaked from what fans became accustomed to last year.
So how did we get to where we're at? EagleAction.com is taking a look at some former BC targets, where they're at today, and what might have been. Of course, it's entirely possible BC could get outstanding quarterback play in 2015. This is merely a mental exercise to provide food for thought.
Hayden Rettig, 2013 recruit, signed with LSU - Early in the '13 recruiting cycle the hope was the younger Rettig (a four-star, 6.0 recruit) would follow Chase's path to the Heights. But in spite of cordial talk, that never became a reality or even a probability at any point. Rettig is now at Rutgers and is expected to start for the Scarlet Knights this fall.
Ryan Burns, 2013 recruit, signed with Stanford - Boston College was a serious darkhorse contender for the Virginia prospect but he ultimately signed with the Cardinal. Like Rettig, Burns is a pro-style. In the spring he was working to become No. 2 on Stanford's depth chart at quarterback.
Joshua Dobbs, 2013 recruit, signed with Tennessee - The Volunteers' resurgence late last year was powered by Dobbs' dual-threat ability and improvisation. More a dual-threat than the aforementioned two, Dobbs was seriously considering Boston College, which was one of the first schools to start seriously recruiting him.
Caleb Henderson, 2014 recruit, signed with North Carolina - BC was quietly a school that Henderson really liked a lot over the course of his recruitment. He's now one of the backups in Chapel Hill that will need to be ready if something happens to Marquise Williams.
Tyler O'Conner, 2012 recruit, signed with Michigan State - He hasn't had to step up for the Spartans yet, but Mark Dantonio is reportedly comfortable with the former Lima (Ohio) Central Catholic quarterback as a backup. Boston College was a school that he took seriously, largely because of the school's academic reputation.
Conclusion
It's not as though any former quarterback targets are setting the world on fire. With the benefit of hindsight Dobbs probably wouldn't have been the best fit, given his production already and the way he plays, which is more in line with BC's current style than many of the other pro-styles that were targeted before Steve Addazio arrived.
