Outlined against a domed November sky, the #1 worst offense in all of FBS fell off their horses again. In dramatic lore they are known as Run, Run, Pass and Punt. These are only aliases. Their real names are Daz, Addazio, Dazzler and Fitch.
With the #119 ranked defense of Syracuse slouching on the other side of the ball, it began to look dubious that The Dazzler’s offense could maintain its precarious #1 ranking. However, stink is a mindset and Addazio was not to be denied.
Rumbling, bumbling and stumbling to 239 yards of total offense, the BC offense managed to convert just 1 of 12 third down opportunities. Adding to their quest for the #1 ranking, the offense had just 9 total passing yards and a 0.0 QB rating (Bluto Blutarsky?). Two interceptions, several dropped passes, 119 yards of penalties, and a matador o-line that tried mightily to get its QB killed, all contributed to helping the offense cling to its tenuous #1 ranking.
128 of 128 is no easy task. Being the #1 worst offense in all of college football takes idiocy, stubbornness, poor recruiting, poor coaching, the inability to properly evaluate personnel, insane play calling, and poor clock management, as well as other variables. However, they were only minor factors for the #1 ranking achieved by Addazio’s lads.
The humble Addazio will not take credit for his offense’s lofty #1 ranking. No, he will tell you himself that the #1 ranking was not due to him. It was predominantly achieved by youth and bad luck (injuries).
Any way you want to slice it #1 is #1. It will linger in the record books and stand the test of time. This is an offense that will live in infamy.
