With Boston College off to such a strong and fast start in terms of 2022 recruiting it's worthwhile for Eagle Action to continue to highlight and communicate with other top targets for Jeff Hafley's staff.
One is Reading (Pa.) Exeter Township athlete JR Strauss, a three-star prospect with a number of Power Five offers.
Since the start of the contact period last week the 6'3, 200-pound athlete has heard from many schools: Boston College, Syracuse, Penn State, Maryland, Pitt, Northwestern, Kentucky, Duke,
UConn, UMass, Buffalo, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Army, Miami-Ohio, Marshall, Toledo, ODU, Colorado State, Eastern Michigan, Princeton, Penn, Dartmouth, Ohio, Harvard, and Columbia.
And he's still going through new mail from new suitors.
"My recruiting picked up at the beginning of 2020," Strauss said. "COVID shut everything down in March, so I haven’t really had much opportunity to get on campus. Fortunately, I’ve been to a few college games and football camps — PSU, JMU, Delaware, Bucknell — over the past year. Mostly stuff close to home. But this past spring killed everything. Between camps and unofficial visits I had about twenty visits planned for this spring and summer. Many of the schools are putting out virtual campus visits which is good, but I want to get out to see campuses and meet the coaches and players."
Strauss went in detail on Boston College and the Eagles' pursuit as well.
"Coach Shimko has been my primary contact at BC," Strauss said. "He has been great about telling me about the program and stuff. He was very interested in speaking to my parents, too. This impressed my mom and dad.
"I’m being recruited as a linebacker. My current DC moves me around on defense but I line up at outside linebacker most of the time. I also play tight end and running back. So, if coach needs a tight end, I told him I love to touch the ball. I’m very thankful that BC has me as prospect and made a great first impression with me.
"Number one, BC is a great college. BC has a lot of tradition and is a place any football player would be proud to represent. I’m looking forward to a visit, hopefully soon.
"When my recruiting started to pick up in late January, I couldn’t keep my mind off of football," Strauss said. "It’s all I thought about. Since then, I’ve talked to a lot of coaches, my parents, my trainer, and friends. Now that I’ve been introduced to multiple programs, I’ve started to noticed different styles, approaches, locations. All of the recruiters and coaches have been awesome. Coach Shimko spent a considerable amount of time with me and my parents which did not go unnoticed. I have a very good feeling about BC as a college and football program. From what I know so far, the school, coaching staff and facilities are top notch. Visiting BC is a priority for me."
