just some thoughts on a rainy Monday:
1. One of the best things Dazz did in his first two years was overhaul the attitude and expectations of the players. Things were poisionous under Spazz. the players didn't expect to win and they seemed to wait around for something bad to happen during a game and then use it as an excuse. the first two years under Dazz things seemed to change. I thought that this was the most promising development for the program. They rarely were blown out and seemed to play everybody tough. That all seemed to get lost last year. Dazz giving these kids excuses with the youth explanation does nothing to help me. When the coach tells them it is ok to lose, then they are going to lose. I am not sure how Dazz plans to rectify this, but it is a huge obstacle.
2. I am 50/50 on a fifth year QB. If they bring one in, I would expect that Wade or smith would want to transfer.my original thought is that if they need to bring in a fifth year that they don't believe in Wade. However I think that Dazz doesn't believe he is going to be allowed another year of development and needs to win this year, which may cause him to go for a quick fix in a fifth year qb. If a fifth year qb gets us to 6-7 wins next year then I would have a hard time saying no, but in the long run it doesn't help as we will be starting from scratch at the position again the following year.
3. having inaccurate qb's is just the death of a team. You cant play that way. Murphy got by to an extent, but they threw the ball so infrequently. This team, when down a td, feels like a 40 point deficit. We have had some bad teams, but for the most part even in the bad years, have had competent qb play, hasselbecks, rettig, Hartsell,. Never seen anything like this last year.
4. As to the recruiting, I don't get worked up over 2 stars v 3 stars. It doesn't matter a ton. BC is not going to be in the 4-5 star game. I would like to see a more competitive offer list, but at the end of the day none of our recruits are going to have offers from the top 15 programs in the country which means.....BC needs to have a system in place for these kids from the day they walk in the door. From strength training to skill development, to enhancement of speed and lateral quickness to agility to eating right to sleeping right. BC needs to invest in a process to get everything they can out of these kids so they are maxed out. Speed coaches, yoga, meditation whatever it is that gets these kids to perform at an optimal level on and off the field. If you cant recruit the best players in the country then train them to max out their ability. Now some kids may max out and never become more than the 2 star player they were rated as. However some kids just need a program, some direction, some training and they will explode. I think we are depressed already as to the current status of our program. I think that depression would deepen if we spent a week as a scholarship football player at BC, and then spent one with an SEC program. The level of commitment, resources, attention and options that the SEC programs offer their kids would probably shock most everyone on this board. Now BC probably has a plan in place regarding strength training, meals, team workouts and so forth. However I would like to see BC be proactive for once. Spend $100,000-$150,000.00 by hiring say someone from the Olympic training center for runners to be a consultant for the program. Hire legitamite high end nutritionists, sleep experts, flexibility(yoga pilates?) gurus. Get these kids prepared across the board. The training will help in performance and injury prevention. It is a small cost with a potential high end reward. The problem is that I don't trust that BC would have the know how as to how to put together a program like this, nor would I expect that they would pay the money for it.
Again, just some thoughts on a rainy Monday.
