Talk about it in The Eagles Nest

Yesterday EagleAction.com brought you the weekend visitor list -- or at least the most important parts of it.

Today, we're answering some questions that might be lingering.

CJ Lewis doesn't have an offer from BC but there's a lot of mutual interest.
Local 2017'ers are most promising early

If you're wondering which 2017 recruits have shown the most interest in Boston College, according to sources, it's the locals. That means Massachusetts and Connecticut players. That's not surprising, especially given the difficulty in getting kids from Florida, Ohio, Georgia, the Mid-Atlantic, Texas, California, etc., to visit Chestnut Hill before the summer preceding their senior seasons or official visits.

If you're wondering about specifics, here's what we've heard.

Hamden (Conn.) Cheshire Academy athlete C.J. Holmes sure sounded very interested in BC in our last conversation with him and sources close to the Eagle program believe that his interest is very real.

According to sources, Holmes will probably be a "take" for BC. That's quite a compliment considering he's coming off a knee injury. Any significant injury requires a "wait and see" approach, but the staff reportedly has been impressed with Holmes' spring and summer work, or what they know of it. It's just a matter of waiting to see how he holds up and has returned once the ball is kicked in Cheshire's first game. The point is, it's very likely he's a take, and BC is the most likely landing spot right now.

His teammate, dual-threat quarterback CJ Lewis, is someone else that BC sources feel good about. Boston College has not yet offered the 6-foot-3, 195-pound prospect, but there may be reason to believe that could happen down the road.

We don't yet know what position BC would offer Lewis as, but there's enough mutual interest for us to believe that Lewis is -- as it currently stands -- a solid candidate to end up at the Heights. He's big and athletic and from and important regional school.

We're also hearing that Newtown (Conn.) Sandy Hook linebacker Ben Mason has been very impressed with BC so far. He visited recently and according to sources close to the program there's a belief that he's very comfortable with the school and the staff. And the staff really likes him. He's a very big linebacker. One source recently raved about how physically impressive Mason is in person.

We'll know more soon
Since BC has a harder time getting guys outside their geographical footprint to visit -- at least so early -- we'll know more about who the Eagles are in good shape with soon.

When?

We may know a little bit more when BC's bye week rolls around. That's not for a long time (Nov. 8-14) but we're hearing that Al Washington will be doing some recruiting work in Georgia, while Justin Frye will be logging miles in Michigan.

One source believes Washington has gotten a good early jump on the '17 class in Georgia, so that's a promising dynamic to keep in mind. Frye's gotten an increasingly positive reception in Michigan.

Speaking of going out to recruit
Coleman Hutzler has completely taken over west coast recruiting responsibilities from Kevin Lempa. The plan, originally, was for a gradual transition from Lempa to Hutzler. The staff has stuck to that plan and Lempa has now been entirely reassigned to the Baltimore area in Maryland and local recruiting in Massachusetts.
