Scrimmage

I was there and it was brutal. Snowing, wind, and cold - impossible day for throwing the football. Still had fun watching the practice/scrimmage with my son. Some thoughts:

- the energy demonstrated by the coaches and kids is impressive. Everybody is into it, screaming and yelling. As my son said as we were leaving, it looked like they were having fun, in spite of the miserable weather.

- hard to tell from watching one scrimmage but it looks like Ike Yiadom might press for playing time at one corner spot. He was getting an earful all scrimmage long from Brown but looked to be running with the first team.

- from what I've read Wade's is the man to beat at QB and he did look to have a live arm. However, I don't think Flutie is far behind. He extended plays, threw well on designed roll outs, and had the only touchdown pass of the day. He truly does have the "it" factor.

- backs looked good as expected. Rouse had a long touchdown run and the others consistently picked up positive yardage. Wilson seemed to play a little of both fullback and tailback.

- offensive line looked a little better than I expected but my expectations going in were low. Starters opened some holes but as we all know there is zero depth at this point. Second line looked like it had Austin Stevens at center (if I was reading the numbers right), the walk-on Conte at one guard, and the true frosh Lindstrom at the other guard. Having Williams back will help but 5th year transfer would be a godsend.

- lot of dropped balls given the weather. Dudek made a nice finger tip catch at one point. He's a gamer and may be a good option as a third down possession receiver.

- Elijah Robinson needs a lot of work. Clearly appeared to be the third option at QB. Thin and athletic but doesn't throw a tight spiral and was inaccurate (a lot of that may have been attributable to the weather but he performed the poorly relative to the other QBs).

- Borgensen didn't do much but the linebacker Martin made a few plays.

I'm going to miss football for the next four months but this team could surprise a few people come the fall, especially given the friendly early season schedule
