Boston College redshirt junior Matt Valecce entered the transfer portal Monday after three years with the program. He’ll have three years of eligibility as a graduate transfer.
“It has been an honor to represent Boston College as a Student-Athlete for the last 3 years, and a blessing to get my degree from a school of BC’s caliber,” Valecce wrote on Twitter. My biggest thank you goes to my teammates I have had here at BC. The bonds I have made with you guys will last a lifetime, and you know I am rooting for the boys harder than anyone.”
After redshirting his freshman year, Valecce battled for the QB2 spot ahead of the 2019 season before losing out on the position to Dennis Grosel. Still, the 6-foot-5 Mamaroneck, New York, native ended up seeing action in six games that year and even completed three passes for 27 yards at No. 4 Clemson in garbage time of a 59-7 blowout.
He also threw one pass in BC’s 40-7 defeat at No. 16 Notre Dame and two more against No. 21 Cincinnati in the Birmingham Bowl, but all three fell incomplete.
Valecce didn’t make an appearance in 2020, and Sam Johnson secured the QB3 role.
Now, both are in the portal.
BC’s quarterback room remains deep, with Phil Jurkovec and Dennis Grosel headlining a group that also includes redshirt sophomore Daelen Menard, redshirt freshman Matthew Rueve, and true freshman Emmett Morehead.
