An interesting read about how PSU should, and other schools have, upgraded facilities.

I found the following quote to be applicable to BC's facilities situation:

"In my experience people give to people," said Esten, who, as chief fund-raiser, oversaw Minnesota's construction of a new $303 million stadium, which also hosted Minnesota Vikings home games the last two seasons while their new stadium was being built.

"They're going to give if they feel inspired about a project or feel passionate about their alma mater. But if they don't trust the coach or feel great about the administration, that clearly makes it more challenging."

My hope is for the practice facility to be so compelling that it speaks for itself, regardless of opinions on Daz, Bates, Leahy or the BOT; that it inspires people to have pride in BC and want to contribute. It does not need a miniature golf course, movie theater or other extraneous amenities that other schools have added. The design, however, does need to fit in with the aesthetics of the campus and be competitive with our peer academic schools.

I hope the same is true for when we ever renovate Alumni and Conte: that it inspires people to have pride in BC and want to contribute.
