With most of BC's 2021 recruiting class assembled, the coaches hope, Eagle Action is turning its focus to many of the program's top Class of 2022 targets.
One is Philadelphia (Pa.) Neumann-Goretti defensive back
Raleigh Collins
, intriguing for a number of reasons, not least of which is his size.
"It's mostly been my size that schools like," the three-star (5.7 RR) prospect told Eagle Action this week. "Coaches rarely see a 6'4 DB."
BC assistant coach Steve Shimko is the recruiter on the Eagles' end.
"They've been saying maybe they would even like me as a hybrid linebacker. Or they could keep me at corner. I talked to Coach Shimko and he loved my size," Collins said. "The coach said he was hoping to talk more and that was basically it so far."
Boston College has offered and Collins has other offers from Cincinnati, Kansas, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia among others.
"Penn State has been the main one communicating with me since their offer," Collins said. "Howard just offered me (Thursday) morning. It's really been kinda quiet because coaches aren't allowed to reach out."
Boston College was the last school to offer if you go back before the Howard offer on Thursday.
Penn State has obvious appeal to in-state targets and Howard normally wouldn't have a chance for a Power Five prospect, but Collins is intrigued because he's aware that five-star basketball big man Makur Maker committed to the Bison, an HBCU school and program. While it would be especially unconventional for a football player to go that route, it was unprecedented for basketball players until recently.
"Howard's coach was a former DB and he said he loved my film and my ability to cover. He said they'll probably be the first people to reach out when the dead period is over," he said.
