So on Monday, I was invited to participate in the First Annual Jim Harbaugh golf classic. The purpose of the event was to raise money solely for the Michigan football program, and specifically for this year, to purchase a camera and monitor (which would include large jumbotron screens) system for practices whereby the coaches could give instant feedback in between plays during practice.
It was $2k per foursome and there were 36 foursomes. Each foursome had a celebrity/player/coach assigned. The best was that it was only a 12 hole event. But it was lunch, dinner and drinks.
$5k for each hole sponsor
Auction went on for ever, but here are some highlights....
a. For 2 people to travel with the team to a road game. Travel, eat, stay and on sidelines with team. $50k for OSU, $25k for Rutgers and others.
b. New nike jumpman uniforms. #4, 1, 2 and 21 went for $10k each. They must have auctioned off 40 or so jerseys, with the lowest price being $5k. Mind you in a few weeks you will be able to buy for $150.
c. Sideline passes for practice. Just practice. $2k per person. Big home games were almost $5k.
It went on and on. Golf with the coaches, signed this and that, special seat.....They also had a silent auction.
The amount of money being thrown around was simply nuts and this was just Detroit. They could probably do a similar event in Chicago and NY and do just as well. Additionally, this was not a heavily publicized event or even open to the public or even MI boosters at large. The invitees and sponsors were selected by the organizers. This is just M and just Detroit. God only knows what goes on at some of these other schools. It was beyond enlightening.
We have people bitch about DBS and there I sat watching somebody drop $2k on a signed Dylan Larkin M hockey jersey.

Saw D Brown and said we will miss him. Was very positive about the BC program going forward.
