Fortunately for you all Boston College has added a player I happen to be very familiar with.
On a personal level he is very laid back. Has an easy-going demeanor. Will keep it spirited and won't be tough for players to get along with. He's probably a bigger Harry Potter fan than any starting quarterback in the country.
Kentucky started Drew Barker the final two games of the 2015 season but I can tell you that Patrick Towles was not the problem.
Downsides: Inaccuracy at times, struggled to throw touchdown passes, inconsistency.
Upsides: Phenomenal speed for a player his size, his size itself, the arm to make every throw in the book (can make throws 95-percent of college QB's cannot make).
He has gotten a lot better at keeping his head up when he's pressured. Against Florida he was being sacked and he lofted a deep pass into the endzone which should have been a touchdown.
His receivers did not help him out this year. The receiver position at Kentucky was talented but plagued by egos and some guys who did not like their role on the team, and Towles struggled in part because of that group's lack of cohesiveness. There were personality problems and I don't think Towles was part of the problem. Under different circumstances he would have been better.
He is a threat to break big plays on the ground, either designed plays or when things break down. UK's offensive coordinator in 2015 (a one-year guy who was just fired) moved almost completely away from the quarterback running. That effectively neutralized one of Towles' best attributes. When he's running he is a player who is much more likely to slide than take a big hit.
Got better at looking for backs and tight ends as that became more of an emphasis from 2014 onwards. Ran his offense from mostly shotgun pre-2015 and almost entirely pistol in 2015.
