Boston College sits at 17 commitments now. Assuming everyone stays on board the most recent information I've been given (it's pretty recent, folks) is that BC can take "probably 22 or 23" as an overall class size. So, five or six empty spots available between now and Signing Day and that's assuming that everyone stays on board.
Priorities:
Running Back: Source told me that in spite of all the attrition here recently the most likely scenario is that Boston College takes one before Signing Day and then targets a bigger class of backs next year once the pool gets bigger. Because of the coaching carousel the pool could expand this year, and that's what this time of year is for. It would be a little more helpful if coaches were out right now and the dust were settled as far as which coaches would be where, because they'd have a more clear idea of where running backs committed elsewhere stand. Right now Arkeem Boyd is obviously a take due to his recent offer.
It's been a bumpy ride at running back in this class. We went from "BC's not taking one," to "maybe" to "very likely" and now to the point where they'd probably take more than one if they could and everything's right. At first it seemed like a power back was the preference but now it looks like best available's the chosen route.
All Defensive Positions: I asked a source whether it would be accurate to say the secondary is the top area of focus on defense and was told that it's probably across the board on the defensive side. That's why Don Brown's going to be hitting so many areas.
Of course, there would be more than five or six spots available if BC loses any commitments. I asked someone about the Sean Ragan talk from a little while back and was told they aren't so much worried about him, or at least they're hoping that wouldn't be a problem given his dad's history and his ties to the program.
I'm told the staff is working "outside-in" so they can get to the farther away commitments first before anything starts slipping. That would mean Bryce Morais, Max Richardson, and Ethan Tucky primarily.
