It is with some sadness that I post my last comments on EAGLE ACTION. With being a member since July 2001 (Class of '86), I have enjoyed many posts and contributions by members, administrators and family members. Heck, I even remember waiting anxiously for my EAGLE ACTION magazine to be delivered to my house -- Scoonie Penn, Jim O'Brien losses class, Adam Allensbach, etc.

My reason(s) for leaving are numerous, but center around the content of posts presented on this board. Any post that is made, no matter if negative, positive or just an opinion, quickly deteriorates into a volley of my opinion matters more than your opinion -- and I'm right --you're not, etc.

But more troubling for me is the tone centering round BC sports, coaches, administrators and recruits.

Life is too short to complain about every decision that the coaches make. I'm sure we all perform at a perfect level each day on our jobs and with every decision. I know no one likes hearing that - 'we are what we are'. Whether you admit to it or not, BC is at a severe disadvantage compared to other schools (or more correctly factories). To make personal verbal attacks at Fr. Leahy because he doesn't place athletics at the top of the food chain at a great academic institution is just ridiculous. I have now lived in Atlanta for 20+ years and I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard that BC is/seems like a great school. Yes, I still get upset when teams lose, but I would much rather hand a resume to a prospective employer with BC on it, then hey, my football/basketball team is rated in the top ten!!!

Lastly, think back to when you were 18 years old. Sure we all think we were men and women of the world, but in reality, we all had no idea what was ahead of us (some us still don't at 52..). So if a kid (yes kid) gets recruited by BC that student athlete MUST possess both intelligence and athletic ability. Sad to say, by Gene was right - 'people want us to be Harvard Monday through Friday, but Alabama on Saturday' (or something close to that). Also, if I am 18 and get recruited by BC and ND, sorry going to ND. But more troubling is the comments directed at the recruits - he has no P5 offers, competition sucked, etc. - leave the kid alone (and by extension his family).

In closing, enjoy BC sports and if you catch yourself consistently writing negative posts about everything (and I mean everything), just find another hobby.

I guess the good thing is if anyone wants to comment on this post I wont be around to let it bother me.
