The last two games when our offense has been at its worst, Callinan who is the only healthy returning starter in 2014 on offense is not seeing any playing time.
He played two snaps in 2nd QTR, and exactly one play in the 2nd half against Louisville, and saw only a few plays in the last 3 quarters at Clemson. Both games were BC worst offensive production all year.
While he caught 13 passes in 2014 (one for a TD against Fuller at Virginia Tech), this year he has been only targeted 9 times and caught 6 passes and one TD (and made a one handed grab that almost was a catch against WF).
Yet Callinan was hardly used against Clemson and Louisville due to the fact that BC offensive strategy went with two tight ends half the plays and the 4 WR spread on others - both of which Callinan was in last year, but not this year ??
This year, the offense continues to use a true frosh WR who will likely be exceptional in a few years, but at this time last year as a HS senior was playing QB and has never played WR before until a few weeks into training camp. Granted he made a few good plays in TRAINING camp and in PRACTICE against our scout team defensive backs. However, he has been targeted over 20 times this year with about 5 receptions this year for 30 yards, alot of drops and two fumbles.
In meantime, two returning offensive starters, Callinan in 2014 and Harrison Jackson in 2013, ride the bench. And people don't understand why our offense is struggling the last 2 games. Both of these players are big targets who can catch passes in traffic. You would figure that our coaches would find ways to get them the ball.
Not saying this is the cause of our offensive woes, but sure doesn't help. And not sure I understand completely when I hear coach talk about having no experience on offense, and yet you have your only offensive starter playing one or two plays in 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters at Clemson and Louisville.
