Of course it can't be fully separated, but I will leave the nuances of play calling, coach accountability, etc to the other threads about those topics.

With the Maine game plan being so plain, the Howard game being so easy that any play would work, and FSU being our worst offensive performance that I can remember since Spaz v Clemson, I think we can safely say we don't really have an offensive identity. By game three in Daz year one, we figured out what a weapon Andre + the OL was. No later than the USC game we knew what we had in Tyler Murphy. This year is ________. I can't honestly tell you what our offense will be best at (even if bad, there is always something you do best).

Our defense is going to give us a shot in every game this year, so we need something to complement that. If it's the power spread, regular spread, read option, so be it. It seems we have been running a sampling of offensive types that don't work flow well. Whatever we go with, we need to figure out what works, fast. Once we do, you start small. Pick a QB but don't ignore the backup in practice. Put a core slate of plays in. Start small, add layers and manipulations each week. As the team starts to execute, they'll learn to play off each other and start to develop some rhythm. Running off-guard or off-tackle into an 8 man front for no gain repeatedly is the definition of insanity.

From practice reports and various posters there is a consensus that we have the most atheticism at the offensive skill positions that we've had in years. It seems to me that it largely isn't seeing the field, I.e. Dudeck at WR over others. I know the O-line needs work but that was going to be the case regardless.

As the defense continues to realize its potential, I imagine we are going to have numerous momentum opportunities off of multiple sacks, turnovers, great field position. We need to work on not going 3/out and killing that momentum. As we go forward, the stars of the offense (whoever they are) will start to separate and we can begin shifting to getting them the ball with confidence that we can at least move the ball a little bit. It might not be by week 3 or 4 like the last two years, but it needs to happen.

After all of that exposition, what I'd like to discuss is what our identity should be, and what the realistic timeframe of discovery is. I see us as an offense in reset mode, and maybe we can reboot to better than we were before.
