Excuse this rant from someone somewhat older...
The FSU vs Georgia debacle is a good reason to change the NIL and transfer rules. FSU is no where near the team it was during the regular season due to drop out and transfers. I find the lack of loyalty to the team disturbing. I get it that these kids are risking big time money if they might get drafted and are hurt but they got the chance to make that money because they played college football. As someone mentioned on another thread, these bowl games are glorified spring practice games....
I agree that college players in big money sports should get paid something to get some of the added value of the show they put on and to have a life during their college time as they can not work a part time job. But if players are paid, they are professionals so shouldn't they sign an agreement to play all the games they are physically fit for. As a customer of these sports, whether I pay at the gate for a ticket or for on line streaming, I want to see the team at its best and every player who paid and is healthy play. Right now it seems the good college player are having their cake and eating it too.... while the the large majority of players are still unpaid......
Some simple rule changes might have an impact. Delay the transfer declaring time until after all bowl games. Bowl games are part of the season so I do not understand why players can declare before they are done. Limit NIL or give a flat out salary to players.
Call me nostalgic or against change but this is not the college football of my father!
