Marshfield tight end Danny Dalton was named the Gatorade Massachusetts Football Player of the Year Thursday morning. He is the second Marshfield player to be honored with the award, joining lineman Zachary Giles (2001).
Dalton caught 49 passes for 702 yards and 11 touchdowns this season while helping the fourth-ranked Rams to an 11-1 record and a spot in the Division 2 state semifinals. Also a standout linebacker, the 6-foot-5, 244-pound senior recorded 57 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions (one of which he returned for a touchdown), and two fumble recoveries.
The Penn State commit finished his career with 2,002 yards. He has maintained a 3.24 GPA.
