Jurkovec, Bailey Ruled Out for UVA Game

Boston College starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec (left knee) and running back David Bailey (upper body) have been ruled out for Saturday’s regular season finale at Virginia.

First-year head coach Jeff Hafley told reporters earlier this week that he was “hopeful” Jurkovec and Bailey would be good to go for the road matchup. He also added that he was “very happy that neither injury is very severe or serious,” however, he did suggest that Jurkovec and Bailey’s availability hinged on if they could continue to progress throughout the practice week.

Dennis Grosel, who replaced Jurkovec last week and fended off a fourth quarter Louisville comeback, will get the nod under center. Grosel started the final seven games of the 2019 season after filling in for Anthony Brown, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the sixth game of the campaign. The former preferred walk-on went 3-4 in those outings.

With Bailey’s absence, Travis Levy and Pat Garwo are expected to split time in the backfield. Levy has 290 yards on 88 rushing attempts this season while Garwo has carried the ball 30 times for 117 yards. Neither have found the end zone on the ground this year.

Jurkovec has accounted for 72.6% of BC’s total offense this season, posting a 17:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the process. Bailey leads the team with 503 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

Neither had missed a game this season.
