I've been speaking with sources about this situation because Jeremy Level has been a name frequently mentioned. Remember, defensive backs are a priority between now and Signing Day. The Greensboro (N.C.) Page defensive back took his official visit to Boston College not long ago and told Eagle Action after the fact that he really enjoyed himself. Though still committed to Appalachian State, he's considering BC and also Illinois, the school he will visit this weekend.

Where things stand as of 1/29: I think Level is a player that BC likes, but I am not sure he is their number one option. He could be, but there are other players like Hamp Cheevers (perhaps among others) that are still vying for the spot, too. I spoke with the Kansas publisher on Rivals.com and he was actually expecting Cheevers to commit to Boston College while he was officially visiting this past weekend.

What BC's staff really likes about Level is his ability, as a defensive back, to come down into the box and smack the heck out of the player with the ball. He will take on and fight off blocks. No questions about his physicality, either real strength or his mindset.

The one question that they have to answer, and they may answer it favorably in time, is whether he can play in an island. Boston College will play so much man to man defense with their corners on an island that they have to be especially sure that he's ready for that. They don't care so much about speed in terms of running a 4.4/40, but footwork is at a premium.

It's possible he could be a take, but right now it's not a situation where he's just putting BC on hold.
