BC is in good shape with Holmes

If C.J. Holmes had to make his college decision today, he'd pick Boston College. But BC will have to close strong in order to get the 2017 back on board.

Holmes would pick BC if he had to choose today.
Cheshire Academy's rising junior running back did not even play football last year as a sophomore. Going into last season he had a significant shoulder injury. It was a dislocation and a torn labrum that happened his last week of school as a freshman.

Holmes had surgery and it was safer long-term not to risk it, so he opted to sit out his sophomore season rather than risk another injury. After all, that junior season is the most important when it comes to recruiting.

"I've been 100-percent for a few months now," Holmes told EagleAction.com. "I was released for all physical activities in December and I've been 100-percent since March."

He could point to the Rivals Camp Series in Piscataway, N.J., as proof of that. There he place No. 12 on the list of the top underclassman performers in what turned out to be a talented group. Holmes hasn't slowed down since that Rivals camp event.

"I went to Rutgers' camp early in the summer," Holmes said. "I think I did real well. The running backs coach really liked what he saw. My coach has been in contact with the offensive coordinator and they were telling me they liked everything. Obviously last year I had the shoulder (injury) and all the schools are interested in me. They just want to see me back healthy for the season. I think my recruiting should really blow up. I'm real confident with the interest I have and my physical ability that I'm going to catch all the offers that I should."

For now Boston College, UConn and Temple are the schools that have offered the three-star prospect.

"Boston College is showing me a lot of love," Holmes said. "Obviously, they were my first offer. Where my recruiting is right now, they would definitely be at the top of my list if I had to commit today. But I don't have to yet.

"I've been in contact with Coach (Kevin) Leonard a little bit. He came down to our showcase. I like where I'm at with Boston College. But again, I want to weigh my options and keep my recruiting open. I'll probably make a commitment late junior year or early senior year."
