SUNJ self-reports after a booster tweeted to 3 NJ HS players to commit to the Dear Old Rutgers Knights of Scarlet. But here's the best part:
Jeff Towers, who is one of the Rutgers football program's most prominent boosters, caused the state university to report an NCAA violation earlier this year, records obtained by NJ Advance Media show.
Two months before Rutgers coach Kyle Flood tried to hire Towers to a position on his recruiting staff, Towers tweeted at two of New Jersey's top-rated high school football recruits, encouraging them to commit to Rutgers.
The Twitter posts on Dec. 16, 2014, prompted Rutgers to self-report a level III NCAA violation in mid-February — in the same week that Flood attempted to hire Towers to a position titled "Director of indoctrination.''
