I am still pissed and will be all week, but trying to regain some clarity so here goes:
THE GOOD:
1. Milano, Strachan, Gutapfel completely chewed up a historically dominant rushing attack.
2. Shcwab made a phenomenal open filed tackle on Thomas on 3rd down
3. Hilliman's long run. (back to him later)
4. Callinan caught everything thrown his way(unless the tipped int was on him)
5. Towles feet
6. Towles swing pass to Garrison and his bullet to Walker were NFL throws.
7. We downed a punt at the 1, for the first time in forever
8. Rouse had a few nice punt returns
9.Smith was active and didn't show any signs of the dropsies which many expected
10. Walker made a nice cut on a screen pass and then unfortunately tripped a yard shy of the marker which ended up being a huge play in the game.
11. Bc forced a fumble deep in their own territory which swung the game temporarily.
12. Oline pass blocked well all down. Other than the strip/fumble play, I don't recall them getting to Towles.
THE BAD
1. The kicking game, Don't know how to fix it, but this cant go on. And then includes the punting game which was very poor today. Short and low on the punts
2. Hilliman: 16 rushes for 29 yards outside of his TD run. Less than 2ypc.
3. Oline did not do a good job in the run blocking department. Were not many holes
4. The secondary was awful today. All the way across the board. Relative to expectations, this was stunningly disappointing.
5. lost turnover battle 3-1
6. Missed sack on 1st down a few plays before 4th and 19, ended up being a huge play.
7. Landrys injury showed up big time, because they couldn't get anywhere near Thomas when rushing four.
8. not that I expected much with 35 seconds left, but is getting it to the 50 for a hail mary too much to ask?
9. obviously 3rd and 4th and long allowing conversions all day was a huge problem.
10. Losing contain on Thomas that let him convert the run to get down to the 6 yard line.
11. Our passing yardage was in the low 100's again and that is putrid.
GT is a bad team. BC was the better team on the filed today and that is saying something. This loss will look worse in a few months. BC has to improve on offense. They looked competent today against what I am guessing we will find out is a really bad defense. When BC steps up in class, they need to be able to run the ball better. I think when BC plays teams even one notch above this, it is going to look very similar to last year. Constant qb harassment, minimal points, lots of three and outs..Starting at Lane stadium.
