Giants' issue was poor drafting and talent - not coaching; although many intra game decisions TC made were skewed knowing his defense couldn't stop anyone. Some of the decisions with play calling and clock management looked questionable on the surface, but TC understood his team's only real chance in many situations was to gamble on the O, and so he was almost always very aggressive in that direction.
TC did not lose this team. Nor did he lose the last couple Jaguar teams he coached. In hindsight, Wayne Weaver admitted that his single biggest mistake with the Jags franchise was firing Coughlin. The NFL set up expansion for those teams to be competitive at the onset. Carolina was structured to win immediately, and Coughlin took a more sustainable approach with personnel. Twelve years as HC in the NFL with one team is a lifetime. The Giants problems are with Jerry Reese, and TC was the scapegoat.
