Just re-watched the game. We dominated that game, scoreboard does not tell the story in this case.
-Hilliman ran hard and the OL is improving. I still want to see more YAC from Jon, because I think he's so talented and capable of more, but it was an improvement from prior weeks. Baker needs a new chinstrap.
-Smith was much more dynamic and led the offense on the majority of their successful drives. I have nothing against Flutie but the read option offense with Smith is just much more difficult to defend based on our personnel. NIU really never stopped it.
-The approach I would take for expanding Smith's playbook knowledge is to focus on quality over quantity and add no more than 5 new plays each week, but have him practice them with a lot of repetition to really get them down. You can't add too much to his plate or he'll play tentatively and be paralyzed with over-thinking.
-NIU had 5 or 6 drops, but I think some big hitting from the secondary contributed to that. Again, I love this secondary.
-Daniels wanted to catch that interception so badly. Nice zone drop, bad play, but then I noticed his helmet had more battle scars from one game than I ever remember seeing. Daniels brings the wood and is a badass.
-Credit to the band. I heard a Bryan Adams rendition, and the Coldplay 'Paradise' selection was on point. The trendy interlude may have been overplayed, but overall it was lively and fresh.
-Clock management at the end of the first half was atrocious. Objectively, it's the worst clock management I've seen at a major college level. Way too conservative. Put CC up in the booth and have him make the clock decisions. Give Fr. Barrett a free bowl of soup and have him call it. I'll do it for free.
-I'd like to see this play: jet sweep to Alston, which the defense will immediately key on, and have him pitch it to Elijah Robinson on a reverse who will then have Jeff Smith as a pitchman option.
-The BC defense will become a national story if we can roll down to Duke and shut them down and walk out with a victory. I'm pumped for Saturday!
