Final 2021 Season Predictions

Andy Backstrom (@andybackstrom)
Staff Writer

We're just a few hours away from the start of Boston College's 2021 season. In all likelihood, the Eagles won't be tested Saturday against Colgate. But it's the start of something potentially really special. BC is searching for its first eight-win season since 2009.

It's just the second year of the Jeff Hafley era, however, the Eagles are already an ACC dark horse. Of course, that's partially because the conference has dropped off in talent in recent years—yesterday was as good of an example as any, when Coastal Division favorite North Carolina lost to Virginia Tech, and Duke fell to Charlotte, which had never beaten a Power Five team. It's also a byproduct of the NCAA's' COVID-19 blanket waiver that's gifted BC with six "Super Seniors" and led to the return of other valuable fifth years, such as offensive linemen Zion Johnson and Ben Petrula as well as running back Travis Levy.

BC ranks 11th nationally in offensive returning production, according to ESPN's Bill Connelly. The Eagles' offense is locked and loaded. And it's piloted by BC's most exciting quarterback since Matt Ryan. Phil Jurkovec enters 2021 with top-level expectations, especially with an elite arsenal of perimeter players around him.

Eagle Action has covered position groups, spring ball and fall camp storylines, depth chart news and Week 1 prep. Now, it's finally time for a prediction.
