I know in college and pro there is a fair share of teams selling PI. In the NFL it works rarely....once in.a while.....but not much. In college FB, it is really out of control. IMO, a major problem. I watch a lot of college FB..not just BC. This nonsense with players, coaches calling for PI flags on every damn pass play is out of control...it is literally every damn play...and the worst part? It works!!!
Unfortunately, in college, too many refs take the bait. Far too many. There is a real qualitative difference between NFL and college refs. In the NFL, they are much more disciplined.most times NFL refs ignore the BS sales job
There were a few PI calls vs BC last night that I saw in yesterday's games that were jokes. Sold calls. The PI call vs McClary was sold by the Clemson staff...totally phantom call...the ref threw the flag 4 seconds after the play was over. The ACC should suspend the ref. Ahmed Brooks, the ESPN color man....fortunately...had the good sense on TV to state the call on McClary was a total joke...that if McClary was not allowed to defend the play in that manner, why even have refs...just throw PI flags every damn play. It was a horrendous call and was called strictly because Dabo sold the official.
I saw 2-3 other very questionable PI calls vs the BC D....and a horrendous number of other bad PI calls in all college games yesterday....This is a real problem in college FB. The constant sales jobs for PI...the 3 second delay...then the belated flag.
The NFL has a Competition Committee to look at such matters. I do not know if the NCAA has a similar counterpart. But something needs to be done. In the college game the selling of PI calls by staff and players, especially at home, is a real issue in this sport.
