Ancient times:
Joe McKenney .700
Frank Cavanaugh (Iron Major) .753
Gil Dobie .685
Frank Leahy .909
Post WWII:
Mike Holovak .623
Joe Yukicka .642
Tom Coughlin .614
TOB .625
Jags .714
What first stands out to me is that in the days of segregation, BC did fairly well. When black players were able to play everywhere, it became more difficult for BC, but certainly not disastrous. Leahy, Yukicka , Coughlin &TOB left for other coaching jobs (ND, Dartmouth, Jacksonville Jags & NCST respectively). Mike Holovak, despite a winning record (although mostly vs mediocre teams) was fired for losing to BU; Jags - well there are lots of rumors about him. Ironically, Bicknell wasn't much over .500. Yukicka and TOB had lots of critics for never winning the "big one," maybe deservedly so. So there it is, folks - we really haven't set the world on fire for a helluva' long time.
