JR - It is my understanding that there is a long term plan in place to knock down the Plex and develop a proper intramural facility for all BC students. At that time, they would likely upgrade the pool and dive facilities and put up a new all weather training facility for football, baseball, soccer, track and field and other ACC sports as well.
Without causing a flameout on this board, what is the current status of this project? Has money been commissioned to build a model of what this facility would look like and what the scope would be? Has a plan been announced to raise money for this facility? If not, why?
Bates, Christain and Adazzio are smart guys and good promoters. They know that the Plex and their facilites are outdated by all standards. My daughter attended University of Dayton and my youngest son went to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Both have far superior facilities to the Plex. In fact, when I looked at schools with my kids, no one had anything like the Plex as their primary recreational facility.
I know our basketball and football practice facilities are insufficient, but the problem goes much deeper than that. Because of scarcity of land and cost of construction, I think the best solution is to go "Big". Do a major fundraiser campaign that the entire BC community can get behind to solve all these problems with one master facility where the Plex is located. Everyone who is a supporter of any BC sports would get behind the campaign. In fact, I think it would unite us. Thoughts?
