Boston College is the latest offer for Jaylen Kelly-Powell, a three-star (5.7) defensive back from Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech. That's the top talent-producing program in Michigan probably by far.
Kelly-Powell is a Class of 2017 prospect ranked the No. 19 safety in his class and the No. 8 player in Michigan. Just some of the other schools that have offered are Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA and Wisconsin.
Not sure which of those schools have really prioritized Kelly-Powell the most or pushed the hardest for him to date, but he seems to have remained pretty well open. Justin Frye is recruiting the state of Michigan for the Eagles and his efforts paid off in the form of a commitment from Tom Kowalkoski earlier this year.
Midwest analyst Josh Helmholdt reported last week that Kelly-Powell is still "wide open" and will only begin to plan offseason visits in the next week or so. Prior to the BC offer Tennessee, Iowa State and Nebraska were the schools that had most recently offered. I don't have any evidence that Kelly-Powell has a 'special' interest in BC but based on what I know of him he's a smart kid who really does his research once a school offers, and he's demonstrated that he's willing to hit the road and visit a lot of schools. He wouldn't necessarily have to single out BC as a visit because that would be very time and money consuming. But if he makes a swing up and down the east coast or to the Northeast then BC could be a legitimate visit destination.
