Boston College reached out to an offensive lineman from Texas almost as soon as the coaches were able to contact juniors.
Bivens has heard from BC and a lot of local schools.
Who coaches are talking to can provide a pretty good idea of what their recruiting board looks like - at least to some degree. Coaches cast a wide net and gauge interest from a whole host of players. But everything starts with that initial contact.
BC reached out to Spring (Tex.) Klein Collins offensive guard Dante Bivens this week. The 6-foot-4, 309-pound junior offensive guard was thrilled about that.
"One of the coaches reached out to me on Twitter," Bivens toldEagleAction.com. "I couldn't even tell you which one. They've recruited our school before. They came to the school in the spring and talked to my coach about me.
"I know their coach had a previous job and he recruited another player from here," Bivens added.
"He told me that the head coach (Steve Addazio) was an offensive line coach before (his current job), so that's pretty cool. He just told me that my coach had good things to say about me and I liked hearing that," he continued.
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and other schools from Bivens' home region have reached out to him since the start of September, too.
