Board Temperature: Hafley Firing

How confident are you on a scale of 1-10?

I think I'm around a 5. I looked it up this morning and I sort of forgot how bad his tenure has been. On the whole it's looking like it's worse that Spaz who also got four years. As disastrous as Spaz was, he finished with a .420 win percentage (Not counting the Meineke bowl win which we all know belongs to Coach O'Brien). Haf currently sits at .410 and is almost certainly going to get worse. The only argument I can think of in favor of Haf being a better coach than Spaz is that Spaz inherited a much better roster that he subsequently burned to the ground. Haf inherited a decent roster, but I don't think anyone would argue it was as good.

On the other hand, I'm really starting to feel like this school is giving up on sports in general and football in particular. Hoops may have gotten lucky that JC was fired while Kraft was still around. To me, there wasn't a single good thing you could say about the Blake hiring at the time (and certainly not now). It was the equivalent of raising the white flag on athletics. Which sort of brings us to the current scenario. I'm sure Leahy, and therefore Blake, is fine with letting football die on the vine and just let Haf play out his contract and part of me feels like it pretty much doesn't matter because if Blake/Leahy is hiring the replacement, that person actually reviving this program would almost have to happen completely by accident.

Anyway, happy Sunday everyone!

Update (sort of) on Bryce Steele

Also figured I'd see if I could get an update on Bryce today given how bad the LB's have been. Nothing yet, but Haf did hint here that it's pretty damn serious. Not going to throw anything out there obviously, but I think we can all sort of make a pretty good guess at this point. Hoping for the best for him

More PFF Detail on Louisville

From another site. According to PFF:

Missed tackles were very well spread, 15 over 11 different players

Pass coverage victims:

Amari Jackson was targeted 5x for 4 receptions and 97 yards
CJ Clinkscales was targeted 2x for 2 receptions and 120 yards!
Jalen Cheek was targeted 1x for 1 reception and 55 yards
Elijah Jones was targeted 3x for 2 receptions and 46 yards

Of course, in a way that's better than George Rooks who was on the field for 39 snaps and had 0/0/0/0/0 of anything.

The DB Savant is not savanting.

Thank you Martin Jarmond

The two most important duties of a P5 AD is fund raising and hiring a football head coach. Those duties are 1A and 1B. Critical duties. Have to get it right. Football subsidizes the other non revenue sports.

Jarmond hired his buddy, Hafley, from Ohio State. Hafley’s first ever head coaching position. How did Jarmond do? It’s an F grade. Not even a D grade. Jarmond left for greener (I.e., more money) pastures. We’re now stuck with his F grade hire and buddy. Back in time to the Spaz years. Painful.
