Wake Up

Wake's the best 3pt shooting team in the ACC, shooting over .400 as a team in conference play, and is 44th in the entire nation in 3pt percentage over the entire season-. Given BC's woes both shooting and defending the 3, this does not bode well for the Eagles. Going to need better execution defending the arc and controlling the pace...I'd still give BC a fighting chance tonight; I think the Eagles focus and energy is going to be better at home (spring semester starts Tuesday, hopefully a good segment of the student body will be back on campus for the weekend), and conversely Wake's been really tough at home so maybe is a little more vulnerable in a road contest if BC gets them out of a rhythm early.

Finishing off watching Clemson beat Duke

Brevin with several huge shots down the stretch to pound the nails in the coffin. Of course, he mixed in two bad shots from 6 feet behind the 3 point line but Clemson fans will take it because the shots he hit were huge (a couple of 3's and a couple of big drives to the hoop). Sad but, we probably beat Duke just like Clemson did with Galloway still at BC.

Also frustrating that Duke goes 3-20 from 3 (3-17 before some desperation 3's at the end of the game) against Clemson after going 6-17 against BC. That is pretty much the difference in the point differential between the two games. And the looks were about the same. Someday, we are going to have a stretch of good luck as a team.

Suggested position change

If he is not going to be an impact player on offense does it make sense to move Llija Krajnovic to the D-Line. Although tall he is a big body that could clog the middle of the D-line. At a minimum in on running situations but out when you need a pass rush. If he can necesitate a double team he potentially frees up other players to make tackles. Potentilly solves a place where we are lacking big bodies.

Hafley Evaluation Regarding Player Personnel

To be a successful coach, you have to do the following regarding personnel:

1) Recruit Freshman and Transfers who are good players,

2) Train and develop these players,

3) Evaluate players to determine if they fit your system, and

4) Then keep the players who support what you are doing and jettison the players who don't.

While this sounds simple, it requires a head coach to be a good leader and decision maker. It also requires him to be very honest with his players and say and do unpopular things. It also may require him to replace coaches who he likes personally but who are not getting the job done.

As to BC and Hafley, he is doing a good job retaining and recruiting players. After a total collapse of the O-line this year, he has recruited a starting guard and tackle from two traditionally good D-1 programs and gotten our All American Guard to return to BC for his final year. As to the skill positions on offense, he has secured a highly recruited running back and wide receiver. Both of these young men should start. While we still could use a tight end, maybe he is yet to come. On defense, we have gotten a series of defensive backs and a talented linemen from Michigan. I would not be surprised if we got one or two more defenders at either linebacker or tackle. I would imagine, the staff is still working on that.

As to jettisoning players who don't fit, we have lost two defensive backs whose playing time had been diminished. We lost an offensive linemen who was not playing and three or four others who weren't working out. While we will likely lose some additional players after Spring Ball, Hafley seems to have been able to retain players who might have left a program where the coach was not inspiring his players.

The unproven part for Hafley after going 3-9 this past season is his player development and training. so far this off season, I have not seen or observed anything that suggests that he is going to a better job. No new coaches or systems have been announced. Are we to believe that everything will be solved just with a new class of recruits and transfers? Based on the above analysis, I think Hafley is going to have to make some changes in this area as well
